Mass shootings by women are rare, according to experts

According to experts from around the country, mass shootings by women are sporadic. Database analysis beginning from the year 2000 has shown that out of the reported 350 incidents involving schools K-12, only 12 were committed by females, which averages out to about 3%. Approximately ninety-five percent of mass shootings are committed by men.

On December 16th, 2024, a 15-year-old female opened fire at her school, Abundant Life Christian School, in Madison, Wisconsin, killing a fellow student and a teacher. An additional six people were injured, including two students who are in critical condition. The suspect was located by police, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

What makes this incident rare from most school shootings is that, first of all, the suspect was a female. Secondly, most school mass shootings tend to happen at huge suburban high schools, and this was a small religious institution. Another oddity about this shooting was the fact that the suspect had just enrolled at this school two months prior, which only gave her a limited amount of time to manifest the amount of rage and anger to commit such a horrific crime. It should be noted that Abundant Life Christian School was an institution set up to receive and welcome individuals who felt rejected by their previous school.
